Sergeant Detective Squad Danae McFarlane was born and raised in the country of Jamaica and immigrated to the Bronx, New York, at the age of 13. She began her NYPD career as a Police Cadet in July 2004. In that capacity she was assigned to the 42 Precinct Domestic Violence Unit, Office of the Chief of Patrol, and Patrol Borough Bronx.
SDS McFarlane was appointed to the NYPD as a Police Officer in July 2010. Her assignments included patrol duties in the 52 Precinct. She also served as the Domestic Violence Prevention Officer in the 43 Precinct.
In September 2016, she was assigned to Special Victims Division and later the Bronx Special Victims Squad, where she was promoted to Detective.
Upon her promotion to Sergeant in December 2020, SDS McFarlane was assigned to the Housing Bureau’s Police Service Area 7 as the Field Intelligence Sergeant.
She was promoted to Sergeant Detective Squad in October 2023 and is currently assigned to the Intelligence Division Regional Intelligence Support Center.
SDS McFarlane holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College and is the President of the NYPD Jamaican American Law Enforcement Organization (JAMLEO).
